Boys Basketball: Old Quarry Varsity Team Sets School Scoring Record

The Warriors scored the most points of any Old Quarry team in 16 seasons during their 73-43 win over Eisenhower on Feb. 8.

The Old Quarry Middle School varsity boys basketball team set the school's single-game scoring record Feb. 8 in their 73-43 win over Eisenhower.

After trailing 15-14 in the first quarter, the Warriors came out strong and never turned back. The team scored 24 points in the second quarter, 22 points in the third and 12 points in the fourth. They finished the game with three three-point plays, two four-point plays, eight three-pointers and 48-percent shooting.

Head Coach Jack Williams says the game marked the most points scored by an Old Quarry basketball team in more than 500 games over 16 seasons. The previous record was 63 points, which the Warriors nearly reached by the game's third quarter.

With Cunningham returning to the lineup, Aldo Pizzoferrato returned to his role as the first big man off the bench, and pulled down multiple rebounds and played strong defense.

The Warriors have won four of the last five games to improve their record to 10-2. Their only two losses were to the team that is playing for the Illinois Elementary School Association championship, Williams said.

During the stretch, the team's hot shooting has netted them 58, 48, 59, 45 and 73 points in each game.
