Award-Winning Writer Coming to Lemont High School Tuesday

Neal Schusterman will address underclassmen to spark enthusiasm for writing, reading.

will welcome writer Neal Shusterman to campus on Tuesday. The author will address all freshmen and sophomores in the Performing Arts Center at 1:30 p.m., and will sign copies of his new book after school in the Learning Resource Center.

An award-winning Young Adult writer, Shusterman authored Unwind, which served as Lemont High School’s “One Book, One School” selection for the 2012-13 school year. Appearing on the 2011 Abraham Lincoln High School Book list, Unwind is a science fiction novel released in 2007 and the first in a trilogy; the follow-up book - UnWholly - will be released the day he visits campus.

During his one-hour discussion, Shusterman will address the writing process with Lemont’s underclassmen, with the intention of sparking their enthusiasm for writing and reading. After his visit with the Classes of 2015 and 2016, the author will move to the Learning Resource Center to sign copies of UnWholly.

Anderson’s Bookstore will be on hand to sell copies of UnWholly for the reduced cost of $14. UnWholly will be integrated into the curricula for the school’s English I Honors, Modern Fiction and Elements of Reading courses during the 2012-13 school year. A limited number of copies of the book will be available in the school’s Learning Resource Center.
