Time Running Out for Amnesty on Parking, Local Tickets

Residents who miss the cutoff date will have to pay up on relevant unpaid tickets—including the late fees—and will be at risk for the new vehicle immobilization program.

The deadline for the village's late fee forgiveness program is just days away. Residents have until March 1 to have late fees waived on any tickets issued prior to Jan. 31, 2013.

In an effort to help individuals improve their credit score rating, as well as avoid the possibility of vehicle immobilization or driver’s license suspension, the Village of Lemont will offer a parking ticket and ordinance violation Waiver of Late fees/Amnesty Program to help clear up unpaid parking tickets and ordinance violations.

All outstanding balances must be paid in full. Partial payments or payment plans will be not a part of this program. Refunds for tickets paid prior to this program will not be issued.

Once the deadline passes, any unpaid tickets will be subject to the standard collection process, as well as the new vehicle immobilization program.

Under the new immobilization measures, drivers with three unpaid parking tickets risk being towed or having their car booted, after the village board voted in November to reduce the total number from five, to three.
