Romney Wins, Paul Places in New Hampshire; Who Has Your Presidential Vote?

Lemont Patch will begin polling its readers on a weekly basis to gauge their interest in the election, its candidates and what issues are most important to them.

As expected, presidential hopeful Mitt Romney claimed New Hampshire's Republican nomination. But how the rest of the GOP candidates filed in was the real story.

Most of the field entered into Tuesday's primary all but conceding the state to Romney. With all the votes counted, Ron Paul finished second followed by Jon Hunstman, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Rick Perry.

Sen. Andy Sanborn, R-Henniker said a solid second-place win was to propel him forward as he heads to South Carolina for that state's Primary in 10 days.

"Then Florida, then Nevada – and remember, Ron Paul was second in Nevada four years ago – and then, he'll bring his message to America. We just have to convince the mainstream media that we have a conversation to have with the American people," Sanborn said.

Romney, meanwhile, made it .

"The president has run out of ideas," Romney said. "Now he's running out of excuses. We're asking South Carolina to join New Hampshire and make 2012 the year he runs out of time."

Next up is South Carolina on Jan. 21 followed by Florida (Jan. 31). Illinois' primary is set for March 20.

Patch is polling its readers to gauge their interest in the election, its candidates and what issues are most important to them. This poll will be published each week until the end of the election season.

And at the end of the Illinois primary (March 20) and general election (Nov. 8), we hope these numbers will provide insight into how attitudes and ideologies shifted throughout what seems sure to be a cutthroat political atmosphere.
