The National Weather Service building in Romeoville was hit by lightning Saturday afternoon. At 4:10 p.m., NWS posted the following to its Facebook page.
"410 PM: Our office took a lightning strike early this afternoon, and as a result external communications are extremely limited and our radar currently remains down," the post stated. "It's not certain as to when our services will be fully restored, but our Web site is available and you can continue to reach us here and on Twitter @NWSChicago."
The 4:10 p.m. update also included information about the upcoming forecast, including the possibility of fog.
"Fog could become an issue for tonight into early Sunday, especially over the areas that saw heavy rain the past two days," the post continued.
The NWS Romeville Facebook page also thanked everyone who shared storm reports and apologized for the limited ability to forecast.
In a later post to its page, around 9 p.m. Saturday night, the NWS Romeoville said it hoped the radar would be restored by Sunday.
"The technician is hoping to have it back up and running some time tomorrow," it stated.
