-The Preamble to the United States Constitution
At the Sept. 10 meeting of the Lemont Village Board, Mayor Brian Reaves designated the week of Sept. 17-23 as Constitution Week in Lemont.
The mayor’s official proclamation reads:
“Whereas, September 17, 2012, marks the 225th anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention; and
Whereas, it is fitting and proper to officially recognize this magnificent document and the anniversary of its creation; and
Whereas, it is fitting and proper to officially recognize the patriotic celebrations which will commemorate the occasion; and
Whereas, public law 915 guarantees the issuing of a proclamation each year by the President of the United States of America designating Sept. 17 through 23 as Constitution Week.
Now, therefore, I, Brian K. Reaves, Mayor of Lemont, do hereby proclaim the week of Sept. 17, 2012, as Constitution Week in the Village of Lemont, Illinois and hereby urge all citizens to reaffirm the ideals of the original framers of the Constitution and to vigilantly protect the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties.”
