Mayor: Incoming 19-Home Subdivision a Sign of Recovery for Lemont

A planned subdivision and other new home building permits issued show people are coming to Lemont, Mayor Brian Reaves said.

Lemont officials Monday took the next steps toward a 19-home subdivision near I-355 and 127th Street.

The development will be the first of its size in recent years, Lemont Mayor Brian Reaves said.

Officials approved annexing the 6.5-acre parcel known as Birch Path into the village, followed by preliminary plat approval and granting of special use. John Ford of Tempo Development worked with village staff extensively to tweak the plan.

The subdivision puts the village on pace for 100 new home building permits this year, Reaves said—the most in at least five years. In peak years, Lemont saw 240 such permits.

"I'd like to thank the petitioner for working with staff," Reaves said. "This is a sign of the times of recovery.

"Good things are happening in Lemont," he said. "We're excited about the uptick."
