April 16: Earth Day Events, Mayor's Drive for Charity, Quarryman Challenge

Message From the Mayor

Congratulations to Trustees Debby Blatzer, Ron Stapleton and Rick Sniegowski on being elected by the citizens of Lemont to serve another four years on the Village Board. We look forward to working with them for another term.

I am also pleased to announce that the Village of Lemont has been awarded its fifth-consecutive GFOA Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. The report is available on the Village website at www.lemont.il.us, along with the FY 2011-2012 Budget which was approved at the April 11 Board meeting.

There are still 7:30 a.m. tee times available for the Mayor's Drive for Charity on April 25. You can make a reservation by calling the Village Hall at 630-257-1590. All proceeds from the event will benefit Lemont charities and non-profits.

Other Announcements

Earth Day Recycling Events

A special recycling event will be held Saturday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Metra Parking Lot. Volunteers will be collecting:

  • Used motor oil
  • Old documents
  • Electronics
  • Prescription medications
  • Bicycles
  • Scrap metal
  • Light bulbs and alkaline batteries
  • Ink toner and cell phones

I&M Canal Clean-Up/Green-Up

The Lemont Heritage Committee is sponsoring a Clean-Up/Green-Up event at the Heritage Quarries on Saturday, April 16, at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers should report to the Heritage Quarries PAvilion wearing long sleeves, long pants and gloves.

Quarryman Challenge

The will be held Saturday, May 7, at 7:30 a.m. Registration starts at 6 a.m. For more information, visit www.quarrymanchallenge.com.
