State Officer Injured in I-55 Accident Near Lemont

Southbound traffic was backed up on Interstate 55 for about three hours Friday night.

An Illinois state trooper was hospitalized following a car accident Friday night near Lemont, and another woman involved was in serious condition.

Southbound traffic on Interstate 55 was backed up from Woodward Avenue in Lemont at about 5:25 p.m., and it was delayed for nearly three hours. 

According to NBC Chicago, a 25-year-old woman was picking up her boyfriend, who was with the state trooper while waiting for his car to be towed.

Meanwhile, another car traveling south hit the woman and then crashed into the squad car with the trooper inside. According to state police, the woman was in serious condition. The trooper was treated and released from the hospital, NBC Chicago reported.
