Seniors Learn Crime Prevention, Safety at Sheriff's Academy

The Cook County Sheriff's academy for senior citizens began April 1 and runs through May 6—and it's not too late for senior citizens to sign up.

Lemont seniors are invited to beef up their knowledge of crime prevention, safety and law enforcement operations during a special Cook County Sheriff's class.

Senior Citizen Law Enforcement Academy meets each Tuesday now through May 6, from 9 to 11 a.m. Each week's course material covers a different topic, as listed below:

  • APRIL 8: Crimes Against the Elderly/Senior Safety—touches on scams, identity theft, con games and elder abuse.
  • APRIL 15: Law Enforcement Agency Operations—911 vs. non-emergency calls, patrol procedures, crime scene processing.
  • APRIL 22: Gangs and Illegal Drugs in Cook County—awareness and prevention.
  • APRIL 29: Court Services, Corrections, Alternative Incarceration Programs
  • MAY 6: Local Community Policing Programs and Graduation
Seniors learn how to protect themselves from crime, communicate with law enforcement, and detect and avoid con games and scams.

Classes are held at the Lemont Township Senior Center, 16300 Alba in Lemont. Any questions can be addressed to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office at 708-974-6042.
