A Village of Downers Grove employee said someone poured some sort of soap into the Main Street Depot fountain and it was now filled with soap suds. The incident occurred sometime between 2:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. Aug. 26 on the 1000 block of Burlington Avenue, police said. Using $40 worth of "de-sudsing" solution did not work, so the employee had to shut the fountain off so it could be cleaned and the pump checked for damaged. There were no leads or suspects at the time of the report.
A Geneva man was well above the regular 35 mph speed limit on Dunham Road when a radar-wielding officer clocked him at 50 mph at about 8:12 a.m. Aug. 21, the first day of school in St. Charles Community Unit School District 303. School zone speed limits generally are 20 mph. Police pulled over Francisco Javiar Ortiz, 21, of the 700 block of State Street, near the entrance to St. Charles East High School on the 1000 block of Dunham Road, according to the report. He was cited with speeding and no driver’s license. He posted $150 cash bond and a $50 booking fee before his release pending a Sept. 19 court appearance. He also faces towing and vehicle storage fees.
An $1,800 purse was reported missing at Whole Foods Market on the 500 block of East Ogden Avenue. The incident occurred sometime between 2:14 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. Aug. 22. The owner said she came into the store with her purse, but was unable to locate it when she went to pay for her groceries.
The purse contained a wallet valued at $1,000, which contained $80 cash, an iPhone, an ID and credit cards. A case is pending.
Daniel Shinost, 18, of the 800 1/2 Lane of the first block of 1/2 Powell, Wyo., was charged at 8:03 p.m. Aug. 5 with solicitor/salesman violation (no permit) on the 8200 block of Geneva Road. Shinost was also charged for the same offense during a different incident on Aug. 13 in Downers Grove, according to a report.
An oboe valued at $1895 was stolen Aug. 25 on the 1500 block of North Route 59, police said.
Sugar was poured into a vehicle's gas tank Aug. 26 on the 1500 block of Fairway Drive, police said.
Someone stepped over a vehicle at 7:45 p.m. July 16, causing damage to the hood, bumper and trunk on the 8500 block of Woodvale. One of the vehicle's windows was also broken during the incident.
