Here's a round-up of recent, bizarre police report items from the area.

HINSDALE

Ride, Then Run

Four unknown people fled a cab that had taken them to Hinsdale from Chicago without paying their fare at 2:27 a.m. July 21, police said.

The group had directed the driver to drop them off at a home in the 100 block of East 8th Street, but it was later discovered the home was for sale and unoccupied. The fare owed was $72 and the case is currently pending.

DOWNERS GROVE

Cursing the Cops

A business owner reported that someone damaged his building on the 4200 block of Belle Aire Lane. The incident occurred sometime between 10:03 a.m. June 25 and 9 a.m. July 14. The front door was broken and one of the garage door's wooden panels was kicked in, according to a police report. "The complainant advised once inside the building the offender(s) spray painted the following on the walls: 'f--- the police, bitches and diy,'" the report said. "He advised they used a can of orange spray paint that he had inside the business." The total damage was estimated at $200. There were no leads or suspects.

 

More Crime Against Koi

About 40 Koi fish were reported stolen from a home in the 1200 block of Brookside Lane earlier this month, according to Downers Grove police.

The resident told police the fish were stolen from a small, decorative pond in her backyard sometime in March, but she didn't decide to file a report until July 17, when she read about another incident of stolen Koi fish in local publications. READ MORE: 15 Koi Fish Worth $1,100 Stolen From Downers Yard 

CLARENDON HILLS

Chicken Caper 

Police at 3:03 a.m. July 13 pulled behind a vehicle that had its driver's and passenger doors open on the first block of Iroquois Drive. A male subject was laying halfway out of the car, police said. The male lost his baby chicken under the driver's seat. Police could hear the bird clucking, but was unable to coax it out. The male said he would try to get the bird out in the morning. 

 

GLEN ELLYN

Benched

Someone took a concrete bench from the 400 block of Pennsylvania. The incident occurred sometime between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. July 8

 

BB vs. Truck 

Someone damaged a truck with a BB pellet on the first block of South Lambert. The incident occurred sometime between 12:01 a.m. July 10 and 5 p.m. July 11. 

 

ST. CHARLES

Scooby, Don’t

A mother took her nine-year-old boy to Delnor Hospital’s emergency room after a dog bit him. The woman told police at 7:40 p.m. July 18 that earlier, another woman was walking her dog near their residence when it broke free of its leash, ran to the boy and nipped him in the calf. The woman walking the dog gave the boy’s mother the dog’s collar, with its rabies tags, as well as her phone number. The collar identified the dog as Scooby. Police visited the woman and dog, which the officer said appeared friendly. Police filled out a dog bite form for Kane County.

 

NAPERVILLE

Explosive Mail

A mailbox, valued at $70, was blown up July 22 on the 1600 block of White Pines Court, police said.
