Lemont Police Warn of Men Posing as Public Works

Unknown men asking to come inside Lemont homes are not actually from public works, Lemont police said. One of the men asked for $50.

Lemont police are urging residents to be aware of a scam where men claim to be from public works, then attempt to swindle the owners out of cash.

On two separate occasions, police responded to homes within the village where the owner said that unknown males fibbed their way inside by saying they need to work on water issues. During the last instance, one man asked for $50 from the owner—who denied his request.

Public works employees never request money for work or inspections, and they are not currently doing any water testing, Lemont police said.

If you are unsure of who is requesting entrance into your residence, or feel someone is trying to scam you, please dial 911.

If you have any information reference these previous incidents, contact Sergeant Mezyk or Detective Salinas at 630-257-2228.
