Lemont Police Report Three Crashes During Snow Storm

Patch readers reported poor driving conditions on the village's hilly roads as a winter storm dumped more than 6 inches of snow Friday.

Nearly 12 hours of steady snowfall created messy roads and dangerous driving conditions across the Chicago area Friday, and Lemont was no exception.

Lemont Police Chief Kevin Shaughnessy told Patch on Friday afternoon that the department had responded to "several" traffic-related incidents during the storm.

On Saturday, he reported three crashes between Friday and Saturday, one of which resulted in minor injuries.

According to the accident report, minor injuries were sustained in an accident near Timberline Knolls, 40 Timberline Drive.

Police said the driver of a vehicle lost control near the treatment facility's entrance, and ended up striking other vehicles in the southbound land.

An accident also occurred on 131st Street at Derby Road. The accident was minor—there were no injuries and the only damage reported was to the rear of the vehicle, police said.

A third crash was reported at Walker Road just north of Main Street. According to police, a driver lost control on a snow-covered road and struck the passenger side of another vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Patch readers on the village's hilly roads—particularly on State and Freehauf streets—as Lemont Public Works struggled to keep up with the steady rate of snowfall.

The storm forced the Illinois Tollway to deploy all 183 of its plow trucks to clear 286 miles of roadway.

By Friday evening, a spokesperson for the Tollway said they helped 159 motorists in need of assistance, providing services such as changing tires, charging car batteries, dispensing fuel, calling for tows and transporting customers.
