Lemont Police Offer Fourth of July Safety Tips

Here are a few things to remember to keep your July 4 safe.

As Independence Day celebrations commence across the United States today, police are urging citizens to follow a few basic safety tips.

The following alert was sent out by the Lemont Police Department this weekend:

We would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Fourth of July Holiday. 

We ask if you are going to drink alcohol do not operate a motor vehicle. Ensure that you and all of your passengers wear a properly adjusted seatbelt. 

Do not use illegal fireworks. Ensure there is an adult present while using legal fireworks, such as smoke bombs and sparklers. If possible, have a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby. 

Please respect your neighbors when using legal fireworks or socializing. Keep your neighbors in mind while celebrating. Conclude your events at a respectful time. 

Temperatures will be especially warm, please ensure you drink plenty of fluids. If loss of power please consider going to the cooling center at the CORE Fitness and Aquatic Center, 16050 W. 127th St.. 

Regular curfew hours are in effect. Thirteen years and under: 9:00 p.m. any day of the week. Between 13 and 17years: 11:00 p.m. Sunday – Thursday. Friday and Saturday 12:01 am. 

Adhere to the “Stop & Lock Program” After parking your motor vehicle, lock it and remember to take your valuables or hide them out of sight.
