Story update: On Jan. 25, Lemont Police investigators issued the following statement: The Individual involved in recent phone scam has asked potential victims to purchase a Green Dot Money Pack card from WalMart or CVS Pharmacy and load it with money. Subject identified himself as “James Peterson,” and requested a call back with the confirmation number for the purchased Green Dot Money Pack. After, the intended victim would receive $1.5 million in an hour and a half.
Remember, if it sounds too good to be true -- it is not true! Do not fall for con artists using the phone or other electronics to bilk you of money. Hang up and contact police if you have further information or if you have any questions.

Original story posted Jan. 24: The Lemont Police Department reports it has received several reports of suspicious calls being made to elderly residents. The callers may identify themselves as being agents of law enforcement or a clearing house agency.
The caller then proceeds to tell the person to mail or wire money to a specified location and, in return, they will mail the victim a larger sum of money.
Police say the number that appeared on one of the calls was 860-924-2730. If you or a family member receive a call from this number or from any other number from which an unknown person is asking you to mail or wire money and in return, they will mail or deliver you a larger sum of money, hang up the phone.
If the caller says they will come to your house to speak with you regarding you giving them money, hang up the phone and call the police using 911 or 630-257-2226.
