Lemont Police Arrest 50 During Holiday Crackdown

The department participated in the statewide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" campaigns in December.

The made 50 arrests during their recent holiday road safety crackdown, police said.

Lemont Police Sgt. Joseph Miller, the department's traffic safety coordinator, said the department made six impaired-driving arrests and issued 25 seat belt citations during the traffic safety campaign, which ran from Dec. 19, 2011 to Jan. 1, 2012.

The crackdown featured high-visibility enforcement combined with a variety of outreach activities, Miller said.

Extra emphasis was given to late-night hours. Thirty-seven arrests and 13 seat belt citations occurred after midnight, according to police.

The checkpoints were funded through a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation's Division of Traffic Safety, and coincided with the statewide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" campaigns.
