Lemont Police Release Thanksgiving Crackdown Numbers

The department participated in the statewide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" campaigns from Nov. 14-27.

Lemont police made more than a dozen significant arrests and issued more than 100 citations for seat belt and speed violations earlier this month as part of a Thanksgiving traffic safety campaign.

The announced that 12 impaired-driving arrests were made and at least 153 citations were issued during the holiday crackdown, according to Lemont Police Sgt. Joe Miller, coordinator of the department's traffic safety program.

From Nov. 14-27, Lemont police joined state and local law enforcement agencies for the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" and "Click It or Ticket" campaigns. The crackdown was funded by federal safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation's Division of Traffic Safety.

"I urge everyone driving on Illinois roadways this holiday season to drive carefully, do not drive impaired and, most importantly, buckle up each and every trip, night or day," Lemont Police Chief Kevin Shaughnessy said earlier this month. "Remember, the best defense against an impaired driver or a distracted driver is a safety belt."
