Lemont Man Indicted in Sexual Assault

Darryl Gillett was formally charged Monday with sexually assaulting a 44-year-old mentally disabled woman.

A 27-year-old Lemont man was indicted Monday on charges he sexually abused a 44-year-old mentally disabled woman.

Darryl Gillett, of the 11800 block of Center Drive, was charged with one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault, two counts of criminal sexual assault and two counts of criminal sexual abuse, according to Tandra Simonton, spokeswoman for the Cook County State's Attorney.

Gillett is being held on $400,000 bail, and will face arraignment Oct. 15 at the Bridgeview courthouse, Simonton said.

A relative of the victim contacted police Aug. 27 after she found Gillett and the victim on a couch in the garage engaging in a sex act, according the Cook County Sheriff's office.

The relative screamed at Gillett, who refused to answer questions. When the relative asked the victim what happened, the victim said Gillett told her not to tell anyone, the sheriff's office said.

Police found Gillett in a local hospital he had checked himself into, and arrested him after he was discharged. During their investigation, Gillett told police he didn't remember anything happening with the victim because he was intoxicated, police said.
