DUI Roundup: 'Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over' Bears Repeating for New Year’s Eve

DUI Roundup information was supplied by area police departments during the week prior to Dec. 27, 2013. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

If you missed the message last week, it bears repeating: If you drive drunk, the consequences will be heavy.

Through Jan. 5, 2014, law enforcement officers from across the area will be out in force for the state’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” crackdown on drunken drivers.

High-visibility alcohol a d seat-belt enforcement will be part of the statewide crackdown that aims to keep drunken drivers off Illinois roadways and, if they do drive, to stop them before someone is seriously injured or killed.

Authorities say the holiday season is particularly deadly because of the increase in drunken drivers.

The consequences of getting pulled over can be costly. There’s the loss of your driver’s license, and potential jail time, and significant expenses such as increased insurance premiums, attorney fees and court costs, lost time at work, and potentially the loss of a job. There’s also the social stigma associated with a drunken driving conviction.

So, if you’re going to drink, take a cab or catch a ride with a designated driver.
