Man Found Dead in Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve Identified

Ronald Weinberg, 68, of Downers Grove, died of natural causes Tuesday in the unincorporated DuPage County preserve, police said.

Authorities in DuPage County have released the name of in the  in unincorporated Lemont on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the DuPage County Coroner's Office identified the man as 68-year-old Ronald Weinberg of Downers Grove.

Lemont Police Chief Kevin Shaughnessy told Patch on Tuesday that police were called to the forest preserve around 4 p.m. after the body was found along railroad tracks near Bluff Road.

Weinberg appears to have died of natural causes, said DuPage County Sheriff's spokeswoman Dawn Domrose. It is unclear how long he had been in the preserve.

"It appears to be someone who was out walking," Domrose said. "Now we're just waiting for autopsy results."

A Lemont woman said she was riding her bicycle on a path along Bluff Road, near the Hindu Temple, on Tuesday afternoon when she heard a train on the Burlington Northern Sante Fe tracks.

The train stopped, so she got off her bike to walk around. As she neared the tracks, she found four train employees standing near the dead body.

"They yelled as I approached because my bike probably would have hit the man," she said. "It was like a scene out of Law and Order. It was completely surreal."

After talking with the train conductor and employees, the woman called the  for assistance. Because the area is unincorporated Lemont, the DuPage County Sheriff's Office took over the investigation. 

"I just feel so horrible that the man was all alone," the Lemont woman said. "It's just an awful, tragic thing to have witnessed."

Domrose said the sheriff's office is awaiting the results of the autopsy, which could take 10 to 12 weeks.
