Analysis: NFL Through Seven Weeks

A quick look at the NFL season through the first seven weeks.

The NFL has been beyond interesting through these first seven weeks. We've seen surprises, upsets and things that we've expected. Looking at the first seven weeks, I'll go through the biggest surprise teams, the biggest upsets and the inevitable events that have happened.

Surprise Teams

Indianapolis Colts: 0-7.

We knew that the team would be hurt without Peyton Manning, but nobody saw 0-7 coming. After witnessing some close games, the 62-7 loss this past Sunday is a nail in the coffin for a team that needs to begin rebuilding.

Philadelphia Eagles: 2-4

This team had been called the dream team before the season began, and after their Week 7 bye, they need to become the redeem team. At 2-4, the Eagles are sitting in fourth place in the NFC East, and must recover quickly in order to still have a shot at the playoffs, let alone the division.

Detroit Lions: 5-2

Although they've lost their past two games, it's great to see the Lions come back as a powerful, rejuvenated team. The Lions are hunting for a playoff spot this season, and can very well take one, as they have dragged the City of Detroit back into football.

Surprise Games

Week 1: Buffalo 41, Kansas City 7

This game showed that the Chiefs aren't jumping back on the division right away, and that the Bills might finally be ready to put the foot on the gas pedal and make a run for the postseason this year.

Week 3: Buffalo 34, New Englad 31

Buffalo finally took down the Pats after a painfully long losing streak. While this is the Pats' only loss so far, this sent them a message that the games against Buffalo are no longer "gimmes."

Week 7: New Orleans 62, Indianapolis 7

This was a quite painful game for the Colts, as massacres to this extent are rarely seen at the professional level. The Colts have been decimated on the national stage, which is finally starting to bring attention to the country.

What We Expected

Green Bay being the league's powerhouse:

Green Bay is the only undefeated team left, and to them, a Super Bowl hangover seems nothing but foreign to them at this point. At 7-0, they are the team nobody wants to face, and may very well take home the Lombardi Trophy for the second year in a row.

Minnesota beginning to rebuild:

Without a true decision at QB, Minnesota is 1-6, putting them near the bottom of the league. Favre was simply getting too fragile last year, and the Vikings should be able to quickly recover after what is looking like a disastrous year to this point.

Denver gives Tebow a chance:

We all knew it was going to happen, and that it had to happen. Tim Tebow is now temporarily taking over the starting job at Denver, and his immense amount of hard work is now put the test for these next few weeks. Contender or Pretender? Only time will tell.

This is what the season is looking like throughout the first seven weeks, and while we have some good ideas at what our postseason will look like, anything can happen.
