Palos hosts Babysitting Training Class

Palos Community Hospital will be hosting babysitting training classes for adolescents in the community. The class is 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, at Palos Community Hospital, 12251 S. 80th Ave., Palos Heights.

The eight-hour American Red Cross class is for children ages 11-15 who seek a meaningful activity to earn money. The class is intended to build self-esteem, decision-making and communication skills, while also developing leadership.

The training course is taught in a hands-on, fun and fast-paced environment that includes role-play and lively discussions. Topics discussed include supervising children and infants; performing basic child-care skills such as diapering, feeding and dressing; choosing safe, age-appropriate games and toys; identifying safety hazards and preventing injuries, such as burns, cuts and bee stings. Most importantly, the course includes lessons on infant/child cardiopulmonary resuscitation and relief of choking techniques.
