TRIBUNE reports: “Residents denied referendum…”

The CHICAGO TRIBUNE today carried a story by reporters Angie Leventis Lourgos and Joseph Ryan entitled “They want vote but won’t get it”.  Subtitled, “Lemont residents fear sports complex will be a burden”, the article documents the effort by citizens to secure a public referendum on a controversial plan by the village government to borrow over $21 million plus interest to construct a rental sports complex on now polluted property lying north of downtown and leased from its current owner, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District.

The reporters interviewed members of the “Let Us Vote” coalition who led the referendum petition drive, as well as other village residents and officials for the story.  Comparisons were drawn with projects that were initiated in other towns.  Expert opinion was also included in the article.

The online edition of the TRIBUNE carried the headline: “Residents denied referendum despite having enough signatures”

Hank Olenick January 29, 2014 at 10:59 AM Great news...I wish you much success. I'm sure you have visited Three Floyds. If not please do. Their beers are coveted and traded worldwide. I personally know people who have traveled from three states away just to have the opportunity to visit their taproom .
Hank Olenick February 06, 2014 at 09:10 PM
Three Floyds is in Indiana. ...not Nebraska.
B.S. Buster February 06, 2014 at 09:29 PM
But that's only one state from here, your position is that people will travel 3 states for beer..... So travel across Illinois, Iowa and then Nebraska....could go South Dakota or Wyoming if that works better
Hank Olenick February 06, 2014 at 09:41 PM
But they won't travel to Gordon Biersch 3 miles to Bolingbrook. It's all about the quality of the product. I sincerely doubt parents will be seeking out the opportunity for their children to play on contaminated property when there are so many other places to go.
B.S. Buster February 06, 2014 at 09:45 PM
Have you run soil samples everywhere you have gone? I know what's right in Your subdivision....Lemont's notorious unregulated dump......
Hank Olenick February 06, 2014 at 09:52 PM
Idiocy demands no explanation.
B.S. Buster February 06, 2014 at 10:59 PM
Well, if you demand no explanation, I won't tell you how that land was used, what happened to the artesian well over there or anything.

Let's get back to the REAL issue : Reaves: Wanted to "fast track" the project last January -- break ground in April and open by November 2013. In the article he claims that there wasn't time for a referendum. The petition drive was LAST FEBRUARY and the primary is THIS MARCH. So Brian , THAT is a flat out....LIE !
B.S. Buster February 07, 2014 at 02:27 PM
I thought the REAL issue was the 'plex. Thanks for clarifying ithat the issue is your ongoing political feud with whoever is in power. Sportsplex, $100mil mile and a half bridge to nothing downtown, Aldis vs trader joes, front street lofts vs nothing.... For a partial list. You really should run for office and show them how it's done. No one else seems good enough for you
Hank Olenick February 08, 2014 at 09:48 PM
BS your blatant narcissism, along with your lack of any social life, prevents you from ALWAYS having the last post. ..good ! This is the story that matters.
B.S. Buster February 09, 2014 at 08:03 AM
Now Hank, you seem to have strayed off topic again..... I thought what matters was the 'plex? Now if I were driven by "blatant narcissism" I would be flashing my name around like its a big deal....who does that sound like?
Hank Olenick February 09, 2014 at 08:15 AM
You BS, You
B.S. Buster February 09, 2014 at 08:38 AM
Anonymous narcissist? Makes as much sense as anything else you have stated

From Jesse/hanks article......While the maneuver is legal, the petition-gatherers say they're opposed to taking out any debt to build the sports complex, regardless of what kind of taxpayer money is tied to the loan. Let's see you stop a legal maneuver
B.S. Buster February 10, 2014 at 04:04 PM
Also from jesse/hanks article... The village has overestimated the risk and underestimated the profit, Reaves said. A sports complex would still generate enough revenue to revive downtown and help keep Lemont property taxes low for years to come, he said.

I don't know BRI-BRI ? Nice failed attempt at getting another gig while being so inept at his current one.
B.S. Buster February 23, 2014 at 10:06 PM
Shirley, you jest!
Hank Olenick February 23, 2014 at 10:27 PM
Nice job at getting zero votes .Damn near worse than less than 800 in a town of 16,000.
B.S. Buster February 23, 2014 at 10:35 PM
So are you going to run next election?
Hank Olenick February 23, 2014 at 10:40 PM
Maybe
B.S. Buster February 23, 2014 at 10:56 PM
Think you can get 801?
Hank Olenick February 23, 2014 at 11:38 PM
I got 1,700 signatures in less than 30 days ...think you could get a life?
B.S. Buster February 24, 2014 at 07:47 AM
No you didn't....your petition did. How's that working out for you?
Hank Olenick February 24, 2014 at 10:00 AM
A very large part of why Bri-Bri will never be reelected. Ignoring the will of the people and thumbing your nose at 1700 voters is not taken lightly.
B.S. Buster February 24, 2014 at 10:13 AM
The only people bothered are your small but vocal group of political malcontents.
Hank Olenick February 24, 2014 at 11:22 AM
There are a vocal few that you are aware of . There are also legions of homeowners who feel Brian and the rest of the stooges were underhanded in denying their right to vote on a risky massive rental property. Maybe he and Paul can open a waffle house on the corner of 127th and State. There's a nice contaminated piece of property there and with Paul C's business savvy in the restaurant business , along with Bri-Bri's people skills , it's sure to last at least three months.
B.S. Buster February 24, 2014 at 12:03 PM
Now you are just making stuff up again.... To suit your ongoing political vendetta....
Hank Olenick February 24, 2014 at 12:10 PM

I don't think too many people will support your political vendetta.
