Goodbye to more of our local businesses

It is very unfortuate that our town is losing yet more businesses. Once again empty store fronts will be decorating local plazas. I have heard that increase in the rental space encouraged these business owners to make their decisions to close up shop. Pancake Cafe and Hallmark are businesses our locals appeared to support. I believe they will be missed. Once again Lemonters need to look to Orland Park or Woodridge to enjoy the shops we need and like. It is curious to me that our Village leaders cannot or would not contact the landloards of our shopping plazas to work with them to help ensure that rental hikes do not contribute to the difficulty our small businesses already have in this struggling economy. Seems to me that promoting and helping our businesses all across Lemont should be a focus of our leaders - not just those in our downtown area.
