Pumpkin's Stolen — Really?

Ellie and Jake's pumpkins were stolen. Not sure how to stop this madness.

We had a pretty good weekend and then I woke up Monday morning to find that Ellie and Jake’s Pumpkins had been stolen.

I am in disbelief that someone would actually come on our front porch and take my kids pumpkins. The only thing I can think of is it had to be teenagers. This past summer, our sandbags were constantly stolen in front of our house and that was annoying, but that is nothing compared to stealing my kids' pumpkins.

Dave and I had a discussion of what we can do to stop these constant little things from being stolen. He suggested putting a surveillance camera in. My suggestion was to put a big banner in my front yard with a picture of my daughter that says, "Really? You are going to steal from a 7-year-old that has cancer?" I don’t think either one is the answer, but I don't know what to do.

My kids were devastated when they found out their pumpkins were gone. Dave and I calmed them down with a solution. We are going to be taking the kids to a pumpkin patch this weekend so they can pick out their own pumpkins. But still, it’s not so much the value of the pumpkin but the feeling in my stomach when someone takes something from you. It seems even more hurtful when it is not of that much value because then it seems like the person was just plain mean.

Oh well. We will move forward, but not sure how to stop this from happening. Oh yeah, and my kids' fish that they got at a carnival recently died. My kids both have bettas, which I've discovered after two years are pretty hard to kill. But then we won goldfish at a fall fest a few weeks back, and Ellie just kept on winning them.

Well Sunday night we walked into Jake's room to find all eight of them floating at the top of the tank. Although this was hard for our kids, Dave and I were pretty excited to see them go. We now have two frogs (did I mention they are hard to kill too?), two betta fish (in two tanks) and a dog. I think we are good on animals for a while.

Anyway, back to Ellie. She is doing fantastic. The only problem I have been having is that she cries because she doesn’t want to go to school. Not sure what has been happening or if it’s just that she had that long break from school due to her surgery and just can’t get herself back in the groove of things.

Oh well, we will truck on forward as always.

She did say she wanted a day off. I told her she just had two days off for the weekend and she will get another one on Wednesday. Little does she know it’s for chemotherapy. Maybe after that she will be begging to go back to school?
