Trojan Hockey: One For the 'Win' Column

Oct. 22: Trojans 6, South Elgin 1.

The Trojans got their first notch in the “Win” column when they took on South Elgin Oct. 22. In another home game at Darien, the team took the ice still pumped from the comeback game against Andrew

It didn’t take long to see that this was going to be a winning game. Two and a half minutes into the first period, the Trojans scored first with a goal by Joe Sambucci (assisted by Bryan Dirst). One minute later, David Ulanski (assisted by
Danny Dirst and Mike Cronin) increased the Trojan lead to 2-0. One more goal, scored by Joe Sambucci (assisted by Bryan Roy) put the team up 3-0 at the end of the first period.

With both teams held scoreless in the second period, Kyle Millinowisch (assisted by Danny Desmond) started off the third period by scoring right from the
face-off.  South Elgin scored once to take the shut-out away from goalie Joe Stolfo.  Two more Trojan goals, one from Bryan Dirst (unassisted) and one from
Bryan Roy (assisted by David Ulanski and Danny Desmond), finished the game
giving the team their first win. Final score was 6-1.

The players kept it clean, drawing only one penalty all game. The defense — powered by Tyler Zaremski, Dan Lebed, Brian Botwinski, Mark Bryane, Mike Cronin, and TJ Laper — shut the South Elgin offense down. They held them to
only 12 shots on net with Joe Stolfo stopping all but one.
