Downtown Lemont Sparkles in Tree Lighting Festivities

Cold weather couldn't keep Lemont residents away from the village's tree lighting Saturday, Dec. 7.

The bitter cold couldn't keep the holiday spirit from warming the hearts of Lemont residents Saturday, Dec. 7.

A bundled-up crowd came out to Stephens and Canal streets, where Mayor Brian Reaves switched the flip on the village's Christmas tree.

Santa stopped in for a visit, and a photo shoot at Sweetwater Deli. Residents waited in line for a ride in a wagon pulled by two snow-white horses, as an ice sculptor chipped away at a carving of Jesus Christ.

The event kicked off at 3 p.m. with caroling by Lemont Girl Scouts, followed by horse-drawn wagon rides. The day also included holiday treats and caroling by Lemont's Old Quarry Choir from 4 to 5 p.m., WJMK/104.3 K-Hits Chicago.
