Lemont Police, Fire Raise Big Bucks for St. Baldrick's

Find out how much support your cops and firefighters drummed up for St. Baldrick's.

Lemont's police and firefighters gave back in a big way this weekend, with over $7,000 in donations to St. Baldrick's.

Police officers and firefighters participated for St. Baldrick's Day, a volunteer-driven charity that raises funds to help find cures for childhood cancers. The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a national non-profit organization that raises money for childhood cancer research. Volunteers with the organization host special events in which they shave their heads in solidarity with children who lost their hair during cancer treatment.

Both departments signed up for the March 15 Bolingbrook 4 Kids St. Baldrick's event. The Lemont Police Department team of Kevin Anderson, Brian Danaher and Terri O'Neill-Borders raised $1,000. The 18-member Lemont Fire Department's Team Rockstar raised more than $7,000 in memory of a coworker's daughter Macy Ganz, who lost her battle with cancer at just over 3 years old.

"It doesn't take me much to support a great cause but to be there with two of my brothers in blue had me feeling so very proud!" said O'Neill-Borders.

"I was thrilled to be dragging my guys into this, and hoping to be there again next year and every year after."

The Bolingbrook event now ranks 27th place in the world, with an overall total of $1 million raised in its seven-year history. This year's event raised more than $120,000.
