Lemont High School Students Honored for 100 Hours of Community Service

Congratulations, Lemont High School students Rachel Miller and Mary Durkin!

Two Lemont High School students have stepped up in a big way, and were recently recognized for their efforts.

LHS junior Mary Durkin and senior Rachel Miller were awarded the Cook County Youth Service Medal of Honor for volunteering more than 100 hours to their community.

The girls were presented the awards at a Dec. 11 UIC forum. The Master of Ceremonies was WGN TV's own Gaynor Hall. Many dignitaries attended, including Sheriff Thomas Dart and Lemont Police Commander Greg Smith and Community Service Officer Jason Boyer.

"It was great to see these two young ladies get involved with the community," Smith said. "Their willingness to help others without hesitation exemplifies dedication to their fellow man."
