Lemont Girl Scouts Spread Holiday Cheer to Seniors

Lemont Girl Scouts belted out holiday songs and spread holiday cheer among senior citizens Dec. 3.

Lemont Girl Scout Troops 259, 360, 588 and 928 visited the Lemont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center to spread some Christmas cheer on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

The groups' 29 girls ranging from first- to fourth-grade sang to the residents to help them smile during the holidays. The tradition started out about five years ago with one troop and grown each year.

"I can personally tell you that this is one of the highlights of the season for the girls," wrote troop leader Robyn Horn. "They absolutely love singing to the residents and hearing them sing along.  Some patients there have no family around, so a song and a handmade card from a little girl scout makes their day."

The girls, in turn, remind adults that it's the simple things in life that people appreciate the most, Horn wrote.

The girls are led by Robyn Horn(259), Wendy McCleary (360), Marni Meloni (588), and Colleen Pyrcioch (928).
