Lemont Girl Scout Designs 'Fun-Filled Day' for Those with Special Needs

Lemont High School senior Emily Durham has quite the day planned.

A Lemont Girl Scout and high school senior is one project away from attaining the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award, and she'd like to have a little fun while getting it done.

"I wanted to take my passion for Special Education and put a little twist into my Gold Award Project," said Emily, who plans to major in Special Education at Illinois State University.

Emily will host a "fun-filled day" for individuals with special needs, up to the age of 25. Planned for April 6, the event is open to those with all disabilities, and will include 10 sports, Durham said. Each participant will receive a medal.

The event will be held at the Lemont High School Fieldhouse, 800 Porter St., from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants are required to register by April 1.
