Buy Sweets, Help a Lemont HS Freshman Get a Handicapped Van

Can you help a local Lemont teen get the wheels he needs?

Zach Wilkens is sorely in need of a handicapped van to help him get around.

Wilkens, a 14-year-old freshman at Lemont High School suffers from cerebral palsy, and his current ride—purchased four years ago with $10,000 in donations—is badly weathered and running on its last bits of power.

His mother Becky Smith jokes that they leave parts of the van everywhere they go, said Lemont Township's Terri O'Neill-Borders.

O'Neill-Borders is teaming up with Aurora Rose Boutique, 111 Stephen St. on Saturday, Dec. 7 for a bake sale from 3 to 7 p.m. Zach will also be offering up hugs for $1, and "really good" hugs for $2.

Hope and Friendship Foundation is the umbrella of this fundraising effort and people can make a donation toward Zach's Van by going to the website www.hopeandfriendshipfoundation.com, through Paypal noting "Zach's Van."
