CUB to Offer Utility Savings Tips, Free Light Bulbs

Citizens Utility Board (CUB), Illinois’ leading nonprofit watchdog group, will give consumers free, money-saving light bulbs and provide information on Lemont’s efforts to cut residential electric bills and tips on how to reduce utility costs.

CUB experts will staff a table at U.S. Rep Dan Lipinski’s Senior Fair from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, Feb. 18, at Lemont Park District CORE Fitness and Aquatic Complex at 16028 W. 127th St.

“We can’t do much about the winter weather, but there are a lot of things we can do to save money on our phone, natural gas, and electric bills,” said CUB Executive Director David Kolata. “We will hand out excellent, money-saving tips and cost-cutting light bulbs.”

CUB will alert consumers about CUBenergysaver.com, a free online tool with hundreds of simple and affordable actions consumers can take to cut their energy bills. The service has been showing people how to save an average of $108 a year. CUB also will give an update on Lemont’s municipal aggregation program and how it is cutting electric bills in the community.

Plus, each family that visits CUB’s table will get a free Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulb, which uses 75 percent less energy than an incandescent bulb.
