Honesty Art Exhibit

For the fourth consecutive year, Timberline Knolls Residential
Treatment Center and the Lemont Center for the Arts are hosting a special
exhibit featuring the artwork of Timberline Knolls' residents and staff. The
art exhibit, titled "Honesty," will be open for public
viewing at the Lemont Center for the Arts from July 11 through August 24,
2014.  Honesty is the core principle
behind Step One in the 12 Step Traditions of recovery.

Timberline Knolls, a residential treatment center for women and
adolescent girls located in Lemont, offers treatment
for eating disorders
, substance abuse,
trauma, mood and co-occurring disorders. Many residents use art therapy to
explore inner emotions. It's a safe way to express strong and sometimes
sensitive or destructive feelings. It can be used for stress and anxiety
management, to enhance communication between individuals and groups, and to
explore change.

The art therapy staff at Timberline Knolls reports that by using
acrylic paint, collage and mixed media, canvases portray an individual’s
artistic expression of the meaning of honesty in life and recovery. From
symbols of hope to the darkest of secrets, each piece of artwork is the voice
and mark of one artist expressing their truth. Residents and staff hope to
empower themselves and share their experience with others by expressing
strengths and struggles through their work.

The
Lemont Center for the Arts

serves as the Art & Culture Commission headquarters and provides classes
and workshops to all residents of Lemont and the surrounding area. The Center
also presents exhibits by local artists and art groups.

A special piece in the exhibit titled “Letting Fly” will be
featured with music recorded by Timberline Knolls’ spirituality coordinator,
Todd Warren. The display includes sealed, anonymous scrolls tied together and
suspended from a tree branch collected from the grounds at Timberline Knolls.
Within the scrolls are images and words that express feelings, memories,
relationships and other aspects of an individual’s story that the writer hopes
to “let go” of in their life.

The Lemont Center for the Arts is located at 1243 State Street,
Unit 101 in Lemont. Hours for the center are: Friday noon to 4 p.m.; Saturday
10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday noon to 4 p.m.
