Week in Review, March 21-27: Draft Legislation Released for District 113A, Village Officials Continue Budget Discussion

A look back at the headlines from the past seven days.

Monday, March 21

In the second of six issue-based election questions, we asked District 113A candidates to weigh in on the future of Central School.

The Board of Education approved Monday the elimination of about 10 positions for the 2011-2012 school year: two administrators, six tenured teachers and 2.5 non-tenured teachers. The total savings is estimated to be about $695,329.

Tuesday, March 22

In their monthly committee of the whole meeting, village officials discussed a possible change in Lemont's BB gun rule to accommodate local boy scouts, as well as stricter guidelines for local towing companies.

Wednesday, March 23

A copy of the legislation for state takeover that was being drafted last year by the Illinois State Board of Education was made public Monday by District 113A. ISBE officials and state representatives confirmed their were plans to put the district under state financial oversight in November of last year before a deal was made with Lemont High School District 210.

A grant from the DuPage County Children's Museum allowed Central School fifth-graders to enjoy a special science fair for families, as well as unique labs and lessons in class.

Thursday, March 24
