Waste Management to Collect Early Due to Excessive Heat

Collection will begin at 5 a.m. Wednesday for residents in Lemont, Romeoville and Lockport.

Waste Management will be collecting garbage and recycling earlier than normal this week due to the excessive heat throughout the area.

Starting Wednesday, collections will begin one hour earlier in several of its southwest suburban service communities as a safety measure for drivers, Waste Management announced Tuesday.

Collections in Lemont, Lockport and Romeoville will begin at 5 a.m., the release stated.

“We are scheduling our drivers to start their routes earlier in the morning in order to safely limit their heat exposure in the late afternoon, when temperatures are at their highest,” said Mike Morley, Waste Management municipal marketing representative.

“We would ask that residents place their materials out on the night before their collection day or an hour earlier than regular collection begins on their service day. We appreciate their cooperation during this period of high temperatures.”
