Illinois Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) donated $500 worth of groceries to the on Thursday.

Groceries worth $1,000— including pantry staples, infant formula, diapers and household supplies—were featured in a Chicago press conference last week that demonstrated the estimated cost of last year's tax hike on each Illinois family, according to a release from the Senate Republians' office.

The tax increase was approved by Democrats in both the House and Senate, with no Republican support, the release stated. It was signed into law January, 2011.

"Over the vocal objections of Republicans in both chambers, they passed a tax increase that took one week's pay out of the pocket of Illinois residents," Radogno said during the Jan. 12 press conference.

"That $1,000 is money that working families no longer have to spend on groceries, gas, clothes and a roof over their heads. Yet the monumental problems of state government remain," she said.
