Patch Fans Sound Off on Thursday's Storms, Cubs-White Sox Rivalry

Follow our Facebook page for news updates and conversation.

Here at Lemont Patch, Facebook is a big deal.

Not only does Facebook allow me to share stories and quick updates, but it allows me to interact with readers, answer questions and see what the community thinks about some of the biggest issues in town.

This week, we jumped to 750 fans! We're still #2 in the Chicago region, but we fell behind Oswego Patch, which recently surpassed the 800 mark. We love and appreciate all the support, so we hope you'll continue to share our Facebook page with friends.

Every Friday, we'll highlight some of the comments on our page, and we'll even share some of our community pages.

Overheard on Facebook:

The steamy weather came to a screeching halt Wednesday night into Thursday as severe thunderstorms caused flash flooding throughout Lemont. Thankfully, Patch fans were there to update us on power outages and flooded streets:

  • Wendy Peebles: Haven't slept all night. Water coming in under crawl space, roof started to leak too!
  • Pat Stanaker Hooper: No power here in my part of lemont since 3am
  • Dwayne Wojtowicz: We lost power around 2:50 this morning. However, I haven't check the basement for water, but our sump pump has been working overtime. I hope Mother Nature is done with her theatrics. I live over in the Keepataw Trails subdivision. Our power wasn't out long. It was just gone, then back on. I think it was out for about a minute.
  • Paul Novovesky: Lockport is fine so far. Standing water on streets but at least where I live NO power outage.
  • Marilou Purpura: cul de sac flooded at hillvilew and Una
  • Marie Hartell Markowski: Main St. closed from Lockport St. to Main; Archer closed from State to 135th; and the village is advising to "avoid Illinois St. from State to Main St." and "...Avoid New Ave. area of 127th." Husband is trying to get home from the Burbank/Justice area and not having a lot of luck with road closures out there. In the mean time, as soon as it stops raining, I've got a few fallen branches to move.
  • Laura Olejniczak: The intersection by the new muffins shop is flooded.
  • Krysta Alongi: Power was out all morning at our shop on new ave. Finally back up
  • Marie Hartell Markowski: It's been an adventure.

The Lemont Farmer's Market started this week in Talcott Square. Here's what you had to say:

  • Melissa LeClaire: Setting my reminder for next week!
  • Audrey Kulik Altringer: The only farmer there didn't have their picture taken. I don't think the Tilted Taco was selling any tacos because of Cook County health laws.
  • Marie Hartell Markowski: Had every intention of heading down there after working in the garden but had to get out of the heat. Hopefully next week will be better.
  • Phill Caruso: I was a little disappointed with the vendor turn out today. I went at about 10:00 and I was expecting it to be bigger than last year.
It was about ½ the size of last year’s.
I only hope it was just because it was the first day and some vendors we not ready.
  • Christine M Hogan: Blaine and Louise who bring the fruit always come after the Fourth of July. Same with the Miri corn. It has to grow first before they can sell it.

I was able to step away from Lemont and Patch on Wednesday for a Chicago White Sox game. U.S. Cellular Field is one of my favorite places in the city, so I shared a photo with fans on the Lemont Patch page.
