May 9: Village, District 210 Meetings; Senior Citizen Spring Social

Five things every Lemonter needs to know Monday.

1. Village Board Meeting

The will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Village Hall, 418 Main St.

The board is expected to move forward with an amendment to the Downtown TIF Redevelopment Plan, which was established in 1991 and is set to expire in 2014.

2. District 210 Board Meeting

The Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the District 210 Board Room, 800 Porter St.

Among the items to be considered: approval of a boys track coach, approval of an activity director, changes to the student handbook, a pay-to-play program and a the 2012 prom contract. The board will also recognize several students, including the May Students of the Month, Mathletes and the Future Business Leaders of America.

3. Two District 113A Meetings This Week

The Board of Education will meet twice this week.

The newly-elected board members will receive training during a special meeting at 5 p.m. Monday night. The board will meet again Thursday at 7 p.m. for a workshop meeting to discuss issues such as Central School, student fees and transportation.

Both meetings will be held in the 16100 W. 127th St.

4. Lemont High School Hosts Senior Citizen Social

Lemont High School will host its annual Senior Citizen Spring Social on Wednesday, May 18, in conjuction with a dress rehearsal of its spring musical, Singing in the Rain. A reception will be held from 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., prior to a 7 p.m. showing of the musical.

The event is free of charge and is geared toward adults ages 55 and older. Attendance will be limited to 120 guests. To RSVP, interested seniors should call 630-243-3970 and leave a voicemail message will their name, phone number and number of people for whom they are making reservations.

5. Exploring the Local Landscape

The , 50 E. Wend St., is hosting geographer and local nature enthusiast Bill Vermette for a special program on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Vermette will discuss the glacial topography of the Palos area, and will also share his favorite places to explore and photograph.
