May 3: Babysitting Training, Belated Earth Day Event

People are invited to bring their old flip flops to any Old Navy location for recycling.

Colorful collection bins will be available inside Old Navy stores through May 21. The shoes then will be recycled by TerraCycle to make four new playgrounds that will be donated to communities around the country.

3. Arbor Day Event

The Lemont Earth Day Committee is celebrating a belated Earth Day and Arbor Day by planting trees in from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. The public is invited to attend the event. All students must be accompanied by an adult.

4. Ancestry Services at the Lemont Library

Adult Services Librarian Debbie Somchay is holding a special program at the , 50 E. Wend St., from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday to teach library patrons how use the Ancestry Library Edition database to reasearch their family history. 5. Babysitting Certification Program

The Lemont Junior Woman's Club is hosting a Safe Sitter Babysitting Certification Program for children ages 11 to 13. The two-day course will be taught by experts and trained volunteers. The program teaches the skills needed to safely care for children of all ages.

Two sessions will be held: Tuesday, June 14, and Friday, June 17, or Tuesday, Aug. 2, and Friday, Aug. 5. All classes will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lemont Safety Village, 55 Stephen St. The cost is $55 per student. See the attached form for more information.
