March 28: Village Board Meeting Canceled, Women's Networking Event

Five things every Lemonter needs to know today.

1. Village Board Meeting Canceled

The Lemont Board of Trustees will not hold their regular meeting Monday night as previously reported on the village website. Their next meeting will be held Monday, April 11, at 7 p.m. in , 418 Main St.

2. Women's Networking Group

The is organizing a new Women's Networking Group for all the village's working ladies. The kick-off meeting will be held Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Illinois Bar and Grill, 1131 State St. Contact the Chamber at 630-257-5997 for more information, or email joanna@lemontchamber.com.

3. Design Your Own Book Cover Contest

In honor of National Library Week, the , 50 E. Wend St., is holding a Design Your Own Book Cover contest for kids ages 5 to 11. Covers can be of real or made up books. All designs must be submitted by Thursday, April 7, so they can be displayed during National Book Week, April 10-17. For more information, call 630-257-6541.

4. Creative Saturdays at the Lemont Center for the Arts

The is offering several art classes throughout the month of April. All classes will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on designated dates, and cost $25 to enroll.

  • Journal Making (April 9): Learn the the history of Japanese bookbinding. Participants will make two journals with traditional book bindings as well as the modern way of embossing the covers to create their journals. These handmade journals are wonderful for your own use or to give as gifts. Materials will be available from the instructor on the day of class for $10.
  • Pleasantries of Painting (April 2): Experience the vision of an English garden or a country field while learning how to paint with water color. All materials will be available from the instructor on the day of class for $5.
  • Wonders of Water Color (April 16): Join this fun painting lesson to learn the basics of water color. All materials will be available from the instructor on the day of class for $5.

5. Read With a Champion

The Lemont Public Library is hosting the Lemont High School state champion cheerleading squad for a special reading night. Kids ages 3 to 8 are invited to join the cheerleaders as they share books about friendship. Kids will also be able to make a friendship link and bracelet. For more information, 630-257-6541.
