Lemont-Richards Matchup Selected as Comcast Game of the Week

The football teams will face off at 7 p.m. Friday at Lemont High School. Prior to the game, the 10th anniversary of 9/11 will be recognized as part of the annual "Hometown Heroes" night.

Lemont High School's second home game of the season will be featured this weekend as Comcast Channel 100's Game of the Week.

The Indians will take on South Suburban Conference foe Richards High School in a crossover contest at 7 p.m. Friday at Lemont High School, 800 Porter St.

Lemont has started the 2011 football season with two convincing shutouts, in its season opener and posting a in week two. The defense has yet to allow a touchdown, and has limited opponents to just four first downs and a total of minus-17 total yards.

The Indians have made seven consecutive playoff appearances. Last year, Lemont went 11-1 while winning its fourth SSC Blue title in five seasons. The team has won 10 games in five of the last six years, and was the IHSA Class 6A State runners-up in both 2007 and 2008.

Richards has split its first two games of the season, posting a 28-6 win over Harlan at home before falling to Morris (28-16) in week two. The Bulldogs went 8-3 last season and advanced to the IHSA Class 6A playoffs.

Lemont has won each of the past two meetings with Richards. The Indians posted a 43-0 win in 2008 and a 30-20 win in 2010.

Prior to the game Friday, Lemont High School will honor the work of Lemont's police, fire and rescue units as part of its eighth annual "Hometown Heroes" night. The event is put on by Interact the student service activity group associated with the Rotary Club of Lemont-Homer Glen.

This year, Hometown Heroes will pay tribute to those who lost their lives during the Sept. 11 attacks.

The event is expected to begin between 6:25 p.m. and 6:40 p.m., immediately following the conclusion of the sophomore game.
