June 3-5: Five Things to Do Around Lemont This Weekend

Residents have plenty to do, from concerts and a vendor market to a Marine homecoming at Stonehouse.

1. Centennial Pool Opens Friday

, 16028 W. 127th St., will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday for members only. The pool officially opens to the public Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. For more information, call the Lemont Park District at 630-257-6787.

2. Historic Walks in Heritage Quarries Park

The will observe National Trails Day on Saturday with two narrated historic walks at 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on the I & M Trail in Heritage Quarries Park. The guided walks will focus on natural and historic points of interest along the trail, according to the Historical Society.

Hikers should meet at the pavilion in Heritage Quarries Park by taking K.A. Steel Road north over the tracks near Turnabout Pizza and following the signs to parking. For more information, call 630-257-2972.

3. Vendor-to-Vendor Sale

Lemont Township is hosting a Neighborhood Vendor-to-Vendor Sale at Calvary Church, 1375 State St., from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Independent distributors will be selling everything from home goods to jewelry. Proceeds will enable vendors to make donations to the Lemont Family Assistance Fund.

4. Marine Homecoming

U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Nicholas Pettke, who grew up in Lemont, will be welcomed home from Afghanistan at 2 p.m. Saturday with a special party at Stonehouse Pub, 103 Stephen St. The homecoming is being hosted by the Warrior Watch Riders and is open to the public.

5. "Ride Down Route 66" Concert

The Southwest Community Concert Band is hositng a free concert Sunday called “Ride Down Route 66."

The concert will highlight selections about Route 66, which connected Chicago to Los Angeles from 1926 to the 1980s. Selections scheduled to be performed include “On the Trail” by Grofe, “St. Louis Blues” by W.C. Handy, selections from the musical Chicago and “Prairie Dances” by Holsinger, according to a news release.

The concert will be held at 2 p.m. at the , 12725 S. Bell Road.
