Going Green: Patch Picks

Looking for ways to be a little more environmentally-friendly? Here are some ways area residents can help keep Lemont green.

Every Thursday, Patch will run a weekly feature called Patch Picks, highlighting editor and reader picks of great local businesses, destinations, services, organizations, ways to spend a day off, and more.  

You’ll find useful lists to help you, your family, friends, and significant others find the best places for everything from Sunday brunch to New Year’s Eve celebrations, pumpkin patches, date night destinations, florists, girlfriend nights out, kids party places, parks and more.

Ways to Go Green in Lemont

1. Children's Fall Clothing and Toy Resale

Get a bargain and help save the planet by buying used. The Children's Fall Clothing and Toy Resale will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 17, at , 12725 Bell Road. Cash only. No children or strollers allowed. For more information, call 708-349-0454.

2. Prescription Drug Disposal Program

The provides safe disposal of prescription medications to keep them from contaminating the enviroment. Bring in unused medication to the Lemont Police Department during business hours for disposal. For more information, contact Officer Denise Bode at 630-257-2229 ext. 2478 or by email.

3. Fall Recycling Event

Save up your old motor oil, electronics and stacks of old papers and bring them to next month’s Fall Recycling Event. Sponsored by the Lemont Environmental Advisory Commission, the event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, in the , 101 Main St. There is a $10 disposal fee for monitors and a $15 fee for TVs.

4. Keep The Parks Green Program

Through the “Keep the Parks Green” program, donations are used to plant a tree or green area. Plantings can be in recognition of a loved one, an anniversary, a special family occasion, a birth or graduation. Call the park district office at 630-257-6787 for information about the “Keep the Parks Green” program.

5. Friends of the Lemont Public Library Ongoing Book Sale

Keep books out of the landfill by donating them to the Friends of the for their ongoing book sale in the library, across from the Reference Desk. Accepted donations include books, paperbacks and DVDs. For more information, call 630-257-6787.
