Five Reasons to Check Out Lemont's Independence Day Extravaganza

From good food and fireworks to free Patch goodies, the Lemont Park District has plenty of holiday fun to offer.

If you're looking to kick of your Fourth of July a day early, head on over to the Lemont Park District for their annual .

Here's the rundown on Sunday's festivities at , 16028 W. 127th St.:

1. Satisfy your appetite

Local vendors will begin serving food at 3 p.m. Looking to kick back with a cold beer? Check out the beer garden, hosted by the Lemont Park Foundation.

2. Get in the game

The park district is hosting several competitions Sunday for adults and children alike. The Rock Pit skateboard competition begins at 4 p.m., the 3-on-3 basketball tournament begins at 5 p.m. at the CORE and a bean bag tournament begins at 6 p.m. Children's activities will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

3. Enjoy live music

Local favorites the Neverly Brothers (4 p.m.) and Pipe Dream (7 p.m.) will take the stage in Centennial Park.

4. Snag some Patch goodies

As one of the sponsor's of Sunday's event, we'll have a table near the children's area where we'll be giving away FREE Popsicles, pens and balloons. Plus, the first 40 people to sign up for the Lemont Patch newsletter will receive a water bottle!

5. Fireworks!

Bring the family and a big blanket and join thousands of fellow Lemonters for the park district's firework show at dusk (about 9:15 p.m.). The show will be simulcast on 104.1 FM.
