Feb. 28 - March 4: Basketball Fundraiser, E-Reader Help, Election Coverage

Five Things You Need to Know This Week:

1. Library Events (, 50 E. Wend St.)

  • Monday, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Chef/owner John Yi of will demonstrate the art of creating vegetable and fruit garnishes.
  • Tuesday, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Folklorist and fiddler Dennis Stroughmatt will honor the beginning of Mardi Gras with a special program of stories and Illinois French Creole songs.
  • Wednesday, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.: Children ages 4 to 10 are invited to "Suess-A-Bration!" for a night of snacks, games and contests all centered around Dr. Seuss.
  • Thursday, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.: Library Director Sandi Pointon will deliver an overview of e-books and deviecs, such as the iPad and Amazon Kindle. She will also explain how to use the OverDrive online service, which allows library patrons to download e-books for free.

2. Basketball Fundraiser : Old Quarry vs. the Village People

No, not the band.

On Saturday, March 5, the Old Quarry Middle School girls and boys basketball teams will take on a team made up of Village of Lemont employees, firefighters and Mayor Brian Reaves. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students. Money raised will go toward funding extracurricular activities in .

3. Mom and Son Night at the CORE

The is hosting an evening of fun activities for moms and sons on Friday, March 4, at the , 16050 127th St. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., boys are invited to bring their moms, grandmothers, aunts or sisters to enjoy gym games, swimming, and a guest performer. 4. Golf Outing to Benefit Spinal Muscular Atrophy Research

Currently, there is no treatment or cure for Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a rare neuromuscular disease. Lemont residents Ken and Jeanne Emerson’s grandson, Ryan, is afflicted with SMA.
