Downed Power Line Causing Traffic Delays Near Archer Avenue, Bell Road

UPDATE: Archer Avenue re-opened as of 7:15 p.m.

UPDATE, 7:20 p.m.

Archer Avenue has been re-opened after a downed power line between McCarthy and Bell roads caused a nearly three-hour closure.

During the Lemont Village Board meeting Monday night, Mayor Brian Reaves said the power line caught fire and required immediate attention from ComEd.

The Lemont Police Department is urging motorists to avoid Archer Avenue between McCarthy and Bell roads as crews from Commonwealth Edison work to repair a downed power line.

The Village of Lemont sent out an alert shortly before 4:30 p.m. about the road closure, which was caused by an issue with power lines near Archer Avenue and Oak Tree Lane.

Residents of The Steeples and Kensington Estates should exit onto McCarthy Road. Detours can be taken by using Bell Road. and 131st Street.

Around 5 p.m., Lemont police and emergency management personnel were on the scene. A ComEd truck was also seen around 5:15 p.m.

The detours were causing moderate delays on Bell Road between Archer Avenue and 131st Street.

Lemont police were not immediately available for comment.
