Swimming, Have We Got Swimming

Many opportunities for summer swimming in Lemont

Well I hope everyone enjoyed this Memorial Day weekend as much as I did. I spent a lot of time outdoors running, riding and doing yardwork.

I wanted to mention all the various swim programs that we have in Lemont in this blog. I will move in order of ages. And the place to start is with swim lessons. The Lemont Park District offers all levels of swim instruction, from infants up to adults. Take a look in the Maker of Memories book to get the full picture.

Once your children have a few sessions of lessons under their belts, they might want to give competitive age group swimming a try. The Lemont Park District is also host to the conference champion Lemont Dolphins swim team. This team is gearing up for its summer season so if your child wishes to swim on a team in Lemont this summer, they will need to act fast. Age group swimming, especially in the summer is great because it combines all the focus of an individual sport with the importance of being a part of a team (kids will race as 4 person relay teams in every meet). The summer meets are not as competitive as the fall/winter indoor season but they do show the young swimmers how the discipline of making as many practices as possible and heeding the advice of their coaches will help them improve their times drastically from the start until the end of the season.

The summer age group team will take kids from 6 up to 18 years of age, so the high schoolers (boys and girls) can still be a part of the Dolphins. In addition, they also have the opportunity to swim with the Lemont High School (LHS) summer program. Several of the kids (it must be nice to have so much energy) swim with both the Dolphins and with the LHS program to help them get ready for High School swimming next school year. For those who might be interested in giving swimming a try at the high school level next year, this is a great way to see what its all about. To get more information, contact the High School at (630) 243-3207.

And I would be remiss if I did not mention my own personal favorite swim group, the Masters swim group that swims in Lemont. This group meets either early in the morning (M/W/F) or evenings on Tues/Thur. Any one who can swim 8 lengths of the pool is welcome to join this group, which is hosted and coached by the TriSmart organization. For folks who have never been part of a swim team before, but enjoy swimming, this is a great way to gain some instruction on how to make your stroke more efficient and also to put more structure into your swim workouts all the while meeting a great group of folks who aren't afraid to be seen in swimsuits.
