The Other Carrie, Sushi, and the Camaraderie of 'Cheers'

Carrie, "Sex in the City" and the TV show "Cheers" — what a combination. What a cast of characters.

We all know the TV show Sex in the City, right? And we all know Carrie from the show? Those shoes? Those clothes? That loft in New York? And "Big," the character whose real name, John, was only disclosed on the final episode of the TV series?

But did you know that Lemont, has its very own Sex in the City and that we also have our very own Carrie?

If you didnt know this, then I highly recommend you visit , our local sushi place. (It's right next to the Jewel at 1224 State St.) In many ways, this restaurant serves more than just some awesome sushi — and in case you're wondering, my favorite dish is called "Sex in the City," and the co-owner's name is Carrie.

Carrie, has her very own "Big." Yes, he is her husband of 11 years, and yes he is the best darn sushi man around!

But you see, sushi is more than fish. It is more than a beautiful presentation. It is more than hot green tea. It is more than — God forbid — the "Sex in the City" roll.

Sushi at Kitaro is like beer on Cheers (with Sam Malone as your friendly bartender). In case you are too young or have never heard of Cheers, it was a highly-rated American series that ran successfully for 11 years.

Our cast of characters at Kitaro? Tom and Judy C., Suzy Hornik, Julie and me. I think you can compare me to Cliff, the mailman in Cheers — always some useless knowledge to impart on others, a little annoying, but always grateful for the food and camaraderie.

And finally, if you have never had sushi, there must be something wrong with you. It is the best food on Earth. And if you think it's expensive, try their Sunday/Monday football special. There's nothing like inexpensive sushi and cheap beer on those days. Check them out at www.gokitaro.com.

And tell them Catherine sent you.
